The Short Guy

Location: Brew Dog, Bristol

Venturing into the Bristol dating world for the first time and it just had to be with someone who had gone to my school. I didn’t know him as he had been a few years above me, but it was actually quite fun talking about ex-teachers and people we both knew. He was good looking, lived in a little cottage in the countryside near Bristol, had a dog and plans to keep chickens (the latter, as anyone who knows me will understand, excited me quite a bit!)

Unfortunately however, he had been sat at the bar when I arrived, and when he got up to go to the bathroom he jumped off the bar stall and literally his head came up to my neck.

Height is going to feature a bit in this blog, as it has in my dating life, and I do feel really bad because I’m sure there are so many lovely short guys out there, this guy being one of them. I also know I am being completely height-ist, but I can't help it, I find tall men really attractive and unless there is a real spark I would find it hard to get over that.

I think the best way to get round it is for guys to say their height on their biog. And actually I'm beginning to realise that the ones that don't, are the short ones. I started talking to one guy and he asked me before we were about to go a date how I felt about being vertically challenged? I asked 'exactly how vertically challenged?', and it turned out he was the same height as me and we mutually decided to leave it. Less awkwardness for both of us.

I guess that is one of the perils of online dating that you just don't get if you if meet someone in a bar...oh times have changed!

  1. If short guys put it in their bio they would just get filtered out. I'm glad I'm married as in the current online dating world I'd never get a date (as I'm 5 foot 8) and nor would any guy below 6ft!! Shouldn't shorter guys get a chance!!?

The Smelly One

Location: The Vittoria Rainy Monday. Monday evenings are for sofa cuddling and an early night, but for some reason I decided a date would be a more efficient use of my time.   I realised the error in my ways at around 4pm at work, when I messaged said date to call it off. It was another of those ‘not really excited by pictures or chat’ moments and I had a nice supper of poached eggs, salmon and avocado I was looking forward too. But, he didn’t take it lying down and actually sent some quite funny responses to my cancellation message that were enough to reluctantly convince me to change my mind again and give it a go. So I walked to the Vittoria (his choice) after work in the pissing rain. It’s not a pub I have ever wanted to go to before despite its close proximity to work, because from the outside it looks old manny and smelly.  I went inside and it was indeed old manny and smelly.  My date stood up to say hello and unfortunately I immediately knew I d...

The Sloppy Kisser

Location: Bar near Oxford Circus Still quite new to online dating apps, the messages exchanged between me and this next guy seemed definitely promising…funny, witty and very flirtatious – for some reason we agreed that we would kiss upon meeting (despite being complete strangers) and I was actually really looking forward to the date. Lesson learnt – never look forward to it and never get your hopes up. They will be dashed!  We did indeed kiss upon meeting. But unfortunately it was so horrendously awful that I had to subtly wipe my face with my hand to remove the slobber! This is the first example of how my dating life is starting to mirror that of the Sex and The City girls...and not in a good way. To quote Charlotte: 'It was all around my mouth!' The next half hour passed by in a bit of a blur. I think he was ok…he was good looking and quite funny as I recall, but I was so worried about the chance he might try and kiss me...

Dating Disasters...why me?!

Hello Readers and welcome to my blog! I decided to start writing this after a lovely, if slightly depressing, weekend with my uni mates who all have boyfriends/husbands/babies/houses. I am the only single one left, and according to them I am ‘living the life’! I do love being super independent, and have had a lot of fun, but at the same time I would really like a special someone as well (not so fussed about the baby bit!) This blog captures some of the dates I have experienced since becoming single. They’re pretty funny now I look back (well I can either laugh or cry!) and writing it has given me a completely different mindset, where I am now actually looking forward to my next disastrous date!  I hope you enjoy reading…   P.S Dad, please don’t read this, it contains things you might not want to know about your youngest daughter! P.P.S I am not a total bitch! Many of these guys are lovely, we just didn’t connect. That's the dating world for you! Disclaimer...
